If you are just now tuning in with the Fit & Happy Winner Challenge, here is a brief background summary of our current challenger, Danielle:
Danielle is on a mission to lose weight, gain stamina, and be healthier. She wants to be comfortable in her own skin and tone her body. She is soon to be 40years old and she knows she needs to make a complete lifestyle change to achieve her ultimate goals and feel truly happy. She signed up for the Fit & Happy Winner Challenge to have a personal trainer who will give her the perfect program and hold her accountable to help her get fit and happy. Here is an update on Danielle’s challenges and feedback since she started Fit & Happy’s Winner Challenge:
We started out focusing on her connection with her core, breathing and posture/ alignment. Combining the 3 of these very important components can be extremely hard to coordinate! The mind and body have to learn to work together, and when you are just beginning, it is hard to focus on breathing, engaging the core, and maintaining proper alignment all at the same time! We focused on this together in my private studio and I had her do the Pilates Mat video by “I’m Fit & Happy” the next day when she was on her own.
Clip from Danielle’s journal after Day 1: “I did my workout later than planned today. But i did it! Pilates mat workout. First exercise where I had to pull myself up to my knees was the hardest for me.”
Clip from Danielle’s journal after Day 3: “I did the 5 min core exercise. It was great. I used the suggested options to make the workout a little easier for now…”
Clip from Danielle’s Journal Day 5: “So tired from yesterday’s hike. But did the booty blast workout…for fun…to check out. It was good. Not easy, I put my booty down a few times. But then continued again.”
Clip from Danielle’s Journal Day 7: “I did the Barre workout (online video by I’m Fit & Happy). It was a great workout! Probably one of my favorites. It was a little challenging since I was feeling a bit tight from yesterday’s workout. I did my best and it actually helped stretch me out. I also practiced the breathing and kegel and belly smiling.” (These are some of the exercises I suggested to help strengthen her core).
Danielle shared these challenges with me:
1. Staying away from the Halloween candy: she placed a dish towel over the bowl!
2. Vertigo: She experiences this from time to time and I replied via email: “Try to add some meditation, relaxation, and positive thinking to your days to help your body return to a more calm/balanced state without generating an undesirable prolonged production of stress hormones. If possible try to reframe from any drama and potential negative stress :)”
In the meantime, we have been meeting twice a week focusing on core, breath, alignment, and coordinating the 3 to work together in synergy! We used the Pilates Reformer mostly. She is now able to connect with her core during the exercises and says “I feel the burn in my lower abdominals, an area which has felt numb for a long time”. She is telling me she already feels stronger! We have also been placing a lot of focus on nutrition. I do not have her on a diet, it is more of a lifestyle involving primal nutrition. Primal nutrition is grain and sugar free, and high in healthy fats, protein, and vegetables. Stay tuned for our next episode when we will be taking her measurements again to check her progress!
