2 Big reasons to stay away from grains and legumes
Lectins and phytates are anti-nutrients found in grains and legumes.
Certain lectins can cause leaky gut syndrome by damaging the small intestines allowing undigested proteins to enter the bloodstream. Gluten, a sub-class of lectin, can cause digestive and immune disfunction. A large portion of the population has a gluten sensitivity and doesn’t know it. Phytates can cause an inflammatory response and when consumed in excess, they bind to minerals such as iron, calcium and magnesium, preventing our bodies from absorbing these important minerals. According to the Primal Blueprint, while whole grains have more vitamins, minerals, and fiber than refined grains such as white bread, they have more anti-nutrients (gluten, phytates, and lectins).
Lectins permanently attached themselves to the sugars that line your cells. They are compounds from plants such as beans, nuts and grains.
Focus on eating foods we evolved eating. The healthiest foods are meat, fish, chicken, vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds.
