Bulletproof Coffee was created by a guy named Dave Asprey who now has a book called the Bulletproof Diet.
I start my day with a combination of coffee, grass-fed butter, and MCT Oil all blended together in my Vitamix. This is Bulletproof coffee. The brand of coffee I use is called Upgraded Bulletproof coffee, but you can use any coffee you wish. I blend my coffee with kerry gold grass-fed, unsalted butter and Bulletproof Brain Octane MCT Oil. Coconut Oil is a good substitute for MCT Oil because it is a medium chain triglyceride so if you already have that in your kitchen, try it in your coffee with butter! MCT Oil is an extract from coconut oil and slightly more effective than coconut oil. The Brain Octane MCT Oil I buy is supposed to be 18 times more effective than coconut oil. I have used coconut oil for months instead of MCT Oil and have enjoyed it, but now I am using the Brain Octane Oil and have noticed a difference. Both are great, but the MCT Oil gives me even more clarity and focus.
The Bulletproof Coffee Recipe:
1-2 TBSP Grass-fed, Unsalted Butter (or Ghee)
1-2 TBSP Brain Octane Oil (or MCT Oil or Coconut Oil)
2 Cups Brewed Coffee (or upgraded Bulletproof Coffee)
Blend all ingredients together in a blender for 30 seconds! This is VERY IMPORTANT! You have to blend, stirring will not give you the frothy, creamy, goodness you are supposed to get with bulletproof coffee.
The purpose of the bulletproof coffee: is to burn fat all morning long, achieve the benefits of intermittent fasting, maintain stabilized energy, and perform at the highest level possible all morning long without any crash, or side effects that occur with regular coffee (jitters, headaches, cravings,etc.).
I used to drink my coffee black, so I was a little hesitant to switching to this creamy treat. I always feel like I’m indulging when I drink my bulletproof coffee! If you have never tried the bulletproof coffee, you are missing out!
The bulletproof coffee is my breakfast. I’m not hungry until about noonish. That’s when I enjoy a salad with sardines, avocado, and lots of veggies. My diet is high in healthy fats, and low in carbs with a moderate amount of protein. The Bulletproof diet is similar to the Primal Blueprint eating pattern. The Primal Blueprint, created by Mark Sisson, is a lifestyle suggesting we move, play, and eat like we did in the paleolithic era (get adequate sun, be more active and less sedentary, and eat plants and animals). This means lots of healthy fats, organic (Non-GMO) vegetables, clean meats from pasture raised animals and wild caught fish. The Primal Blueprint and the Bulletproof Diet both promote a low carb eating pattern because the processed carbs in the majority of our foods have anti-nutrients and are unnecessary in achieving optimal health. Both the Primal Blueprint and the Bulletproof Diet recommend eating more than half your calories in healthy fats. Including foods high in healthy saturated fats are important to fuel your brain and energize your body! In contrast to conventional wisdom, coconut oil and grass-fed butter will improve your health, help you lose weight, and change your life! Try the bulletproof coffee and let me know how you like it!
